BBT Charting
Basal Body temperature charting is an important diagnostic tool for us TCM practitioners, and is a simple way to obtain a vast amount of information as to what is going on during your menstrual cycle. It can help us understand if and when ovulation is occurring, monitor hormonal fluctuations and identify any areas in your menstrual cycle that needs a little TLC.
This is particularly important if you are having period problems, are on a journey to conception, or simply if you are getting curious about your body.
There are two main ways to BBT chart: with a thermometer or TempDrop
With Tempdrop
TempDrop is an armband device that you wear whilst sleeping. It tracks your basal body temperature continuously overnight. You can sync the data to an app on your phone whenever. The app also tracks symptoms alongside your chart.
This is what I recommend to my patients for ease. Particularly if you wake often during the night, do shift work, get up often with children overnight, or those who forget to take their temperature each morning manually.
Please head to their website: http://www.tempdrop.com/discount/AFEMMABOND
You can also get a 15% discount using the code AFEMMABOND.
With a thermometer
Before we start, please purchase a BBT specific thermometer. this can be done cheaply from a local pharmacy - please ensure it goes to at least 2 decimal places and is specific for ovulation.
We suggest tracking your temperature through fertility friend - click here
Step 1: Take your temperature first thing in the morning - before you move, drink anything or speak. This can be done under the tongue using a digital thermometer. Aim to take your temperature around the same time each morning, and after 3-4 hours of sleep. Your basal body temperature is the lowest body temperature at rest, and therefore must be taken in the morning before you get up and move around
Step 2: Record your temperature with fertility friend
Step 3: Repeat each morning!
Please start a new chart on day 1 of your period
